It wouldn't be hyperbolic to say that documentaries have shaped my life and where I am today. Growing up with Steve Irwin on my screen every day after school, through to Attenborough in my teens and Theroux in my twenties, documentaries have been a big part of my life. It's one of the main reasons I chose journalism.
I wanted to make something not only that could be used as part of a portfolio, but something I was proud of. Something I could put my heart and soul into. Long nights editing, coffee in hand, spending hours nailing down just a few seconds, something that sounds tedious but I was relishing it.
Too often throughout my education I have felt that I was grinding out work that I was only doing to get a grade, whereas for me, i wanted to make this major project something I would enjoy doing.
So I chose a TV Documentary.
Having presented a documentary last year, my passion for creating TV documentaries grew, I enjoyed every second of it, from choosing the shots, writing the script, editing it and showing it to friends and family.
I believe TV is the best form of communication with an audience and with the skills I have developed whilst at university, I felt like the best way for me to be able to tell a story that will encapsulate many, would be TV.
I knew developing a TV documentary would be one of the more demanding areas of journalism, but the challenge is what excites me and I can't wait to get going and document everything throughout this journey on this blog right here.
